Gum disease is an inflamed and infected condition of the gums and tissues around your teeth. It creeps up on most people and if not recognized and treated early, will cause bleeding, recession of the gums, loosening of the teeth and finally loss of some or all teeth.
Gum disease is brought upon by lack of hygiene maintenance, poor home care, ill health and medication of some types. In some cases, it is allowed to progress through ignorance of the condition. Poor oral hygiene is linked to a variety of general health issues. Read about this in our Media center articles.
Both the above patients were vastly improved after a few visits with our Hygienist. Your mouth and teeth are precious. At Caring 4 Smiles we educate our patients primarily to recognize the status of their mouth and teeth and we train every individual to perform meticulous home care.
Our Preventive care program starts with an amazing Hygiene session. Indications of early gum disease are:
- Bleeding gums – especially when touched or pressed lightly, flossing or brushing
- Dark brown or black build-up at the gum margins
- Bad breath and swollen gums
- Receding gums – the teeth look long and may be slightly loose.
